Sarah Weiss - 2007
I volunteered at Kiwakkuki for 8 weeks during the winter of 2007. I was between a job and going to graduate school, and I wanted to use my time off to volunteer in a meaningful way. I organized and lead English conversation and computer skills classes for the staff, worked on the website, and helped with small tasks around the office. The staff at Kiwakkuki are wonderful. They became my family while I was in Moshi, made me feel extraordinarily welcome, and trusted me to help in whatever way I could. I have stayed in touch with many of them and continue to think of them as dear friends. They are dedicated beyond words to their mission and to the Tanzanians who show up at their office to get tested for HIV, to obtain funds to go to school, or just to find some moral support. From the daily morning prayer and song, to celebrating the small victories with song and dance, to persevering in the face of enormous obstacles, Kiwakkuki is an inspiring organization and a wonderful place to volunteer.
